Now is the time for dancing!
1st of November
Now is the time for dancing. It is time for rebuilding the destroyed ruins. Everything has to be restored before the returning of Jesus. (Acts 3:21)God has created the dance, and everything that God has created is in its origin good. God has created us to move and express ourselves through our bodies. (Acts 17:28) The devil cannot create anything good, but he is always ready to pervert and steal what God has created. Let us take back what the devil has stolen!
We can still find a lot of prejudices against dancing in the churches to-day. Many believers think that it isn’t possible to dance purely before the Lord. Church traditions have taught them that all dancing is sinful and very inappropriate in a church. I want to state that dancing is a medium that can be used by different sources. Music can be inspired by an unclean source, but we haven’t stopped using music in the church because of that. Why have we stopped to dance then? There are many reasons, but I do not want to spend time elaborating on that now. I would rather go to the Bible and find out what it says about dancing.
Dancing is meant to be a powerful tool in praise and worship, in spiritual warfare and in celebrations. The Bible mentions dancing the first time when the Israelites had crossed the Red Sea. We can read from Exodus 15:20: “Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.” They are thanking God through dancing and singing. They are so thankful that God gave them victory over the enemy. We should perform the same type of dancing in thankfulness over the victory of our enemies. We can call Miriam the leader of the dancing. We do not know how old she was or how clever she was, but we do know that she honored the One Who is worthy all our praise.
David is another person who lived in praise and worship. He writes in the psalms:
Psalm 87:7 “Both the singers and the players on instruments say, “All my springs are in you.” In our Norwegian translation it says that all the singers and dancers say: All my springs are in you.
Psalm 149:3 “Let them praise His name with dance”
Psalm 150:4 “Praise Him with the timbrel and dance”
David is really an example of dancing before the Lord with great intensity and boldness. We can go to the text from 2.Sam.6. In verse 5 it says that David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord with all kinds of instruments. In verse 14 it says that David danced before the Lord with all his might. It says that the whole of Israel took part in the dance and in the celebration. I look forward to the day when all of God’s people will dance and express their joy and love for the Lord. It should not be done as a response to an order, but it should be a spontaneous joy, coming from a heart, loving God.
In my 1988 translation of the Bible it says that the house of Israel played in front of the countenance of the Lord. I believe that God is longing for this spontaneous joy, the same joy that a child shows towards his or her mother and father. I cannot forget a child that I saw in one shop. The little girl got a Frisbee from her father and she got so happy. She jumped up and down and she cried out: “THANK YOU DADDY, THANK YOU!” It is this kind of thanksgiving that is expressed through dance and worship. We should have this kind of enthusiasm towards our heavenly Father. He has really given us so much more than a Frisbee.
Children do not care so much about the reaction of others and they feel free to express their emotions. They trust their parents and feel free to express themselves in front of them. This is the norm. There are unfortunately those who have been hurt in their relationships. God wants us to become like children. Jesus says in Matt.18:3 “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”
I want to show you that dancing is part of the New Testament as well as the old one. I start with Luke 15:25: “Now the older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.” The father became so happy when the lost son came home, that he arranged a big party. Maybe our heavenly Father arranges a party together with the angles every time a lost sinner comes home into the kingdom of God. It will be a party full of dancing and singing.
There are many aspects of dancing and we can find biblical examples of ungodly dancing. We can read in Exodus 32:19 that the Israelites danced for the idols in the desert. We are called to give God honor through our dancing and Moses rebuked them for their idol-worship.
I started to dance at the end of my teens. I played handball as a child and teenager. When I was 16, a vein burst in my thigh and two liters of blood made my thigh swell up enormously. I was in the hospital for about a week. I finally developed a bone tumor and I could not move or jump for several months since the muscle might burst again. I was very sorry since I was used to be active. Many prayed for me, but I especially remember when a prayer group at home prayed for me. My mother had seen the ex-rays and it has looked like a mountain and she got faith to talk to the mountain. I should take a MR-examination a month later and I said to God: “If you make me well, I will use my body to honor you.” I got a longing to dance. When the hospital got the result, we got a phone call and were called to the doctor. He said that the leg was completely well. The tumor was gone. He could not explain it, but we knew that Jesus had done a miracle. Hallelujah! I am now dancing for God and I give Him all the glory and honor for He is worthy.
This is written by my youngest daughter. She loves to give God honor and praise through her dancing and she wants the dance to be pure. She does not want people to focus on her body, but on Him Who has created her and healed her. Even if she is quite good, she does not think that to be so important, but the heart and motive behind the dance. I hope that you got inspired to move your body in joy and worship of Him Who is worthy of all our praise and worship. You do not have to concentrate on the steps or compare yourself with anybody else, but focus on the One you are dancing for. I have just returned from an anointed conference and I am not very good in dancing, but I just had to dance. It was the Holy Spirit that made me dance. It is a release in dancing. I have recently gotten a diagnosis in my back and neck, but I had no pain while I was dancing. I actually believe that I can be healed through dancing for the Lord. My daughter has gotten the dance as a ministry and has been asked to bring the dance back to the Body of Christ, but we can all dance. When children are happy, you can see them skip down the street or they might take the hands of each other and jump up and down. There were a lot of nations represented at the conference I attended. Many were dancing. The styles were different. I had wriggling Africans on one side and in front I had Russians, clapping their hands and they were jumping up and down and from side to side. They were so happy over their freedom in the Lord. The Bible says that all that is within us shall praise the Lord. That includes everything that has to do with our bodies.
DO NOT ALLOW THE DEVIL TO STEAL YOUR FREEDOM AND THE GODGIVEN DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
